Visits

Steve travels throughout Scotland, Cumbria and Northumberland sorting out horses who are difficult to load or subject their handler to barging, kicking, biting and other equine behaviour problems.. Visits can also be arranged for preventative training - so that handlers can get it right before any problems are unwittingly created.

When a potential client phones Steve and describes the problem they're having, probably the first thing he will ask is whether the horse has had his teeth, back and tack professionally checked because a problem in any of these areas can often be the cause of unwanted equine behaviour. Steve has passed a saddle fitting course and can give you a totally unbiased opinion on the suitability and fit of your tack.

Then he will want to know about the horse's lifestyle (what is his routine, does he get turnout, does he have company etc) and what he is being fed. Sometimes the answer to the problem is obvious and advice can be given on the phone, but generally it is better that Steve visits to assess the horse or pony and handler together.

The majority of issues can be resolved during one visit - Steve works with the horse and handler to a point where they both feel confident enough to be given ‘homework’ to carry on the re-education. For this reason Steve won’t work with a horse or pony unless the owner/handler is present. Following the visit, clients are encouraged to phone or email him for advice or to discuss progress.

Visits are charged at £35 per hour plus 40p per mile travelling.

Obviously it benefits clients if they have a friend whose horse also
needs attention, as they can then divide the travel cost.
