When Steve has been and gone and your horse has surprised you and you've surprised yourself, things can go 'flat'. You watched what he did, you practiced it yourself - yet the following day it doesn't go quite so well and you can be forgiven for thinking, "Oh dear, it's wearing off already". Don't worry, it happens to a lot of people but it wasn't a magic spell Steve put on your horse - after years of practice his timing, energy level and body language are bound to be better than yours and that is what your horse is reacting to.

Pick up the phone or send an email explaining exactly what's happening and Steve will talk you through it. Some people are lucky - their horse gets the message during the visit and never looks back. Mostly though, it has to be a team effort. Before he left, Steve will have explained what you need to do for 'homework' - please help yourself and your horse by doing it. He does get a bit cross when people contact him, admit to not having done their homework for a couple of weeks since the visit, then when things aren't working well they suddenly decide that maybe they'll do it after all. Too late! Once your horse has learned new habits he/she needs to practice them until they are second nature, otherwise the old bad habits will take over again.

If you contact Steve and it's been a couple of weeks since his visit please make sure he knows who you are before you start talking about your horse. He sees lots of clients and horses so saying something along the lines of, "I'm the one with the purple hair and orange jods who gave you two eclairs" will be much more helpful than just saying he came to see your pony two weeks ago.

If you haven't already done so, please join our forum where you'll find loads of support. Finally, clients who add something to the Testimonial page are much appreciated!
